WHAT IS THE MOTIVATION FOR OFFERING ADVANCE INSTITUTE?
According to the Apostle Paul, followers of Jesus are called to be "ambassadors for Christ" as "ministers of reconciliation" (2 Corinthians 5:11-21). In Ephesians 4, we see the calling for church leaders to equip believers for ministry. The Institute is designed to bring a quality learning environment to Christians in our region for minimal expense.
HOW MUCH WILL EACH COURSE COST?
The cost of each class will be $40 so long as you register at least 10 days prior to the start of an upcoming course. Note: If a second member of the same household registers for the same course, there will be a $10 discount applied to the second family member's registration (i.e. - Husband pays $40 and wife pays $30.)
WHAT ARE THE TECHNOLOGICAL REQUIREMENTS FOR ONLINE ACCESS?
All you need to access the courses online is the internet. You can even use tablets or smartphones.
DO I NEED TO COMMIT TO ALL OF THE COURSES?
No. Each course is offered independently. The Institute is set up for people to take as many (or as few) courses as they desire.
DO I NEED TO HAVE A HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA OR COLLEGE DEGREE TO PARTICIPATE?
No. There are no prerequisites for taking courses with the Institute.
HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE FOR THE AVERAGE PERSON TO COMPLETE THE ONLINE COURSEWORK?
Everybody is different. On average, a student should plan for about 2 hours of study per week in addition to the cohort.
WHAT ARE THE THEOLOGICAL DISTINCTIVES OF THE INSTITUTE?
Most of the courses we use come from Porterbrook Seminary. They are widely used by Acts 29 churches around the world. The distinctives of all the courses will be missional and rooted in reformed theology.
ARE THERE ADDITIONAL TEXTBOOKS NEEDED FOR THE COURSES?
No. There will be no additional textbooks needed. Therefore, $40 is the most a person will pay for a course.
WILL A PERSON RECEIVE TRANSFERABLE CREDIT FOR COURSES TAKEN THROUGH THE INSTITUTE?
This is a great question! Right now, there are U.S. colleges looking into making this a reality. However, this is not an option at this time. The courses are based in the United Kingdom. The U.S. and the U.K.'s educational systems do not mesh very well. If and when this changes, the Institute will respond accordingly to be in compliance with U.S. credit-based standards. In the meantime, there will be an internal grading and credit system based on standards utilized by other Acts 29 churches around the world.
CAN A PERSON AUDIT A COURSE?
Yes. A person can take a course without doing the written work or quizzes. The cost of the course will still be the same. Also, to audit a course, a student must participate in the Option #1 Cohort.
