Advance Institute

exists to equip and train people for the work of ministry.

CURRENT COURSE

Shaping Advance's Culture will examine the why and how of Advance's future gospel ministry based upon the following principles:

  1. The Word of God is to be central to discipleship and ministry.
  2. The local church is the primary context for discipleship and ministry.
  3. Change happens by grace through faith.
  4. Mission should shape everything we do as Christians and churches.

Other than Scripture, the primary curriculum for this course is Philosophy of Ministry produced by Crosslands. (Additional material will come from The Gospel Driven Church by Jared Wilson.) Each unit includes reflection questions to help you consider your own personal ministry and Advance's ministry as a whole. This course is open to anyone, especially those who seek more information on what goes on behind the scenes and want to get more involved.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHAT IS THE MOTIVATION FOR OFFERING ADVANCE INSTITUTE?

According to the Apostle Paul, followers of Jesus are called to be "ambassadors for Christ" as "ministers of reconciliation" (2 Corinthians 5:11-21). In Ephesians 4, we see the calling for church leaders to equip believers for ministry. The Institute is designed to bring a quality learning environment to Christians in our region for minimal expense.

HOW MUCH DOES EACH COURSE COST?

The cost of each class will be $30.

WHAT ARE THE TECHNOLOGICAL REQUIREMENTS FOR ONLINE ACCESS?

All you need to access the courses online is the internet. You can even use tablets or smartphones.

DO I NEED TO COMMIT TO ALL OF THE COURSES?

No. Each course is offered independently. The Institute is set up for people to take as many (or as few) courses as they desire.

DO I NEED TO HAVE A HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA OR COLLEGE DEGREE TO PARTICIPATE?

No. There are no prerequisites for taking courses with the Institute.

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE FOR THE AVERAGE PERSON TO COMPLETE THE ONLINE COURSEWORK?

Everybody is different. On average, a student should plan for about 2 hours of study per week.

WHAT ARE THE THEOLOGICAL DISTINCTIVES OF THE INSTITUTE?

Most of the courses we use come from Porterbrook Seminary. They are widely used by Acts 29 churches around the world. The distinctives of all the courses will be missional and rooted in reformed theology.

ARE THERE ADDITIONAL TEXTBOOKS NEEDED FOR THE COURSES?

No. There will be no additional textbooks needed.

WILL A PERSON RECEIVE TRANSFERABLE CREDIT FOR COURSES TAKEN THROUGH THE INSTITUTE?

This is a great question! Right now, there are U.S. colleges looking into making this a reality. However, this is not an option at this time. The courses are based in the United Kingdom. The U.S. and the U.K.'s educational systems do not mesh very well. If and when this changes, the Institute will respond accordingly to be in compliance with U.S. credit-based standards. In the meantime, there will be an internal grading and credit system based on standards utilized by other Acts 29 churches around the world.
